It is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Nicaraguan maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, all aged 10 years and rolled at Padrón's own factory in Estelí. It was the first Family Reserve size, released in 2008 for the company's 44th anniversary, and it is the line's only torpedo.

Wrapper and Blend

The Padron Family Reserve No. 44 Maduro uses a Nicaraguan maduro wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos, all grown and processed by Padrón. Padrón ages the Family Reserve tobacco 10 years and describes the blend as full-bodied.

The maduro wrapper gives this version a darker look and shifts the profile toward chocolate and sweeter, roasted notes; the same size is also made with the natural wrapper.

Format and Size

The Padron Family Reserve No. 44 Maduro measures 6 inches long with a 52 ring gauge, about 0.81 inches in diameter. It is box-pressed with a tapered, pointed head, the only torpedo in the Family Reserve line. Padrón released it in 2008 to mark 44 years since José Orlando Padrón opened the company in Miami in 1964, and it set the pattern every later size has followed: a box of 10, natural and maduro wrappers, and tobacco aged 10 years. Each Family Reserve size is numbered for a company anniversary or a birthday of founder José Orlando Padrón.

Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It

The Padron Family Reserve No. 44 Maduro suits experienced Padrón smokers who want the fuller, older-tobacco Family Reserve blend. It is a good fit for smokers who like a torpedo head that concentrates the smoke, and anyone who wants the size that began the Family Reserve line. It pairs well with Cuban coffee or espresso, and with aged rum, bourbon or rye whiskey. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.

Factory: Tabacos Cubanica S.A., Padrón's factory in Estelí, Nicaragua

Packaging: boxes of 10; sold here as singles, 5-packs and boxes

Release: 2008, the first Family Reserve size; tobaccos aged 10 years

Padron Family Reserve No. 44 Maduro FAQs

What size is the Padron Family Reserve No. 44 Maduro?

It is a box-pressed torpedo measuring 6 x 52, 6 inches long with a 52 ring gauge.

Where is the Padron Family Reserve No. 44 Maduro made?

It is made at Tabacos Cubanica S.A., the Padrón family's factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, from Nicaraguan tobacco only.

How is the Padron Family Reserve No. 44 Maduro packaged?

Padrón packs it in boxes of 10.
