Description
The Espinosa Knuckle Sandwich Chef Special 2026 is a full-strength toro oval measuring 6 x 54, the fifth annual Chef Special release in the Knuckle Sandwich line Espinosa makes with Guy Fieri. This year's edition wears a Mexican San Andrés Claro wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler. It's a one-time blend, limited to 4,000 boxes of 10.
A New Wrapper Every Year
Each Chef Special keeps the Nicaraguan core and changes the wrapper. The series started in 2022 with an Ecuadorian Habano, followed by Ecuadorian Sumatra in 2023, Connecticut Broadleaf in 2024 and Brazilian Mata Fina in 2025. For 2026 the leaf is a San Andrés Claro from Mexico. Claro is the lighter, un-darkened form of the San Andrés leaf most often sold as maduro, so it brings San Andrés earthiness without the heavy sweetness of a maduro wrapper.
Size and Shape
At 6 inches by a 54 ring gauge (about 0.84 inches across), it's a classic toro pressed into an oval. The press flattens two sides, which makes it sit comfortably in the hand and tends to slow the burn slightly. It's the same 6 x 54 footprint as the regular Knuckle Sandwich Toro-H, so it's an easy side-by-side with the core line.
Strength and Flavor
Retailers list it as full strength, in keeping with the rest of the Knuckle Sandwich range. No full tasting reviews of the 2026 blend have been published yet, so these notes reflect what a San Andrés Claro wrapper typically brings to a Nicaraguan core: cedar and toasted bread up front, black pepper and earth through the middle, with light cocoa and a natural tobacco sweetness on the finish.
Flavor notes: Cedar, toasted bread, black pepper, earth, light cocoa, natural sweetness.
About the Line
Knuckle Sandwich is the cigar brand celebrity chef Guy Fieri created with Espinosa Premium Cigars, and the Chef Special is its yearly limited edition. The 2026 release was introduced at the PCA trade show in New Orleans in April 2026 and is made in Nicaragua. Because each year's Chef Special uses a different wrapper and isn't repeated, collectors tend to pick up every edition.
Who It's For
This one suits Knuckle Sandwich fans, anyone collecting the Chef Special series, and smokers who want a full-strength Nicaraguan cigar with a lighter, drier wrapper than a maduro. Coffee pairings: Café Cubano, Medium roast Colombian, Cortado, Americano, Cold brew. Spirit pairings: Bourbon, Rye whiskey, Añejo tequila, Aged rum, Mezcal. With a run of just 4,000 boxes, a full box is worth keeping in a humidor at 65 to 69 percent humidity.
- Factory: San Lotano factory, Ocotal, Nicaragua
- Packaging: boxes of 10; also sold as singles and 5-packs
- Release: 2026 limited edition, 4,000 boxes, one-time blend
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the 2026 Chef Special different from past years?
The wrapper. Every Chef Special changes it, and 2026 uses a Mexican San Andrés Claro. The binder and filler stay Nicaraguan.
How many were made?
Production is limited to 4,000 boxes of 10, and the blend won't be repeated.
Is it box-pressed?
It has an oval press, which is softer than a square box press and leaves the cigar rounded on two sides.
