Description
The Padron Collection Maduro Sampler puts five Padrón cigars in one box, one of each, all with the maduro wrapper except the Dámaso. The Padrón Collection Sampler takes one cigar from each of five Padrón lines, from the everyday Thousand Series up to the Family Reserve. Every cigar is made by the Padrón family in Estelí, Nicaragua.
What's in the Sampler
- Padrón Family Reserve No. 45 Maduro, 6 x 52 box-pressed toro. From the 10-year-aged Family Reserve line. See the single.
- Padrón 1926 Series No. 9 Maduro, 5.25 x 56 box-pressed gordo. Cigar Aficionado's 2007 Cigar of the Year. See the single.
- Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series Exclusivo Maduro, 5.5 x 50 box-pressed robusto. The 1964 line's best-known robusto. See the single.
- Padrón 3000 Maduro, 5.5 x 52 box-pressed robusto. From the everyday Thousand Series. See the single.
- Padrón Damaso No. 32, 5.25 x 52 round robusto. Padrón's Connecticut-wrapped line. See the single.
Blend and Wrappers
Four of the five cigars wear a Nicaraguan maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. The Dámaso No. 32 is the exception: Padrón makes the Dámaso line only with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, so it is the mildest, creamiest cigar in the box. Each cigar comes from a different Padrón line, so the aging runs from about two and a half years for the 3000 to 10 years for the Family Reserve No. 45.
Sizes in the Box
The sizes stay close together, from the 5.25 x 52 Dámaso No. 32 and 5.25 x 56 No. 9 to the 5.5 x 50 Exclusivo, the 5.5 x 52 3000 and the 6 x 52 Family Reserve No. 45, so the box is easy to smoke side by side.
Strength and Flavor
TRP lists the Padron Collection Maduro Sampler as medium to full in strength overall. The Family Reserve No. 45 is the strongest cigar in the box, the 1926 No. 9, 1964 Exclusivo and 3000 sit at medium to full, and the Dámaso No. 32 is the mildest at medium.
Flavor notes: Dark chocolate, espresso, earth, leather, molasses, black pepper.
Who It's For
The sampler is the simplest way to taste several Padrón sizes without buying full boxes, and it makes an easy gift for any Padrón fan. Smoke them side by side over a few evenings. Coffee pairings: Espresso, dark roast, mocha, Cuban coffee, French press. Spirit pairings: Bourbon, aged rum, tawny port, rye whiskey, Islay Scotch. The box is not a humidor, so keep the cigars at 65 to 70 percent humidity if you plan to hold them.
