Description
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Superior Natural is a medium-to-full box-pressed lonsdale measuring 6.5 x 42 from Padrón's 1964 Anniversary line. It is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Nicaraguan sun-grown natural wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, made from tobacco aged four years. It is the longest slim size in the series.
Wrapper and Blend
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Superior Natural uses a Nicaraguan sun-grown natural wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos from the Estelí, Condega and Jalapa regions. Padrón ages all tobacco used in the 1964 Anniversary Series for four years before rolling.
The sun-grown natural wrapper is lighter in color than the maduro and leans toward cocoa, cedar and nuttier notes; the same blend is also offered with a maduro wrapper.
Format and Size
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Superior Natural measures 6.5 inches long with a 42 ring gauge, about 0.66 inches in diameter, and is box-pressed into a squared shape. It is the longest of the slim sizes, half an inch longer than the 6 x 42 Corona, and it shares its 6.5-inch length with the thicker Monarca at 46.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Superior Natural as medium to full in strength. Its flavor notes are cedar, cocoa, roasted nuts, coffee, baking spice, white pepper. The long, narrow format keeps the wrapper in focus, with cedar and cocoa through most of the cigar and spice building late.
Line History and Production
Padrón introduced the 1964 Anniversary Series in 1994 to mark the company's 30th anniversary, naming it for the year José O. Padrón began making cigars in Miami. It launched as a box-pressed series when most cigars were round. Each cigar carries an individually numbered band that guards against counterfeits. The Superior gives the 1964 blend the long, narrow lonsdale format, the size Cigar Aficionado lists it under.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Superior Natural suits smokers who want an aged, all-Nicaraguan blend. It works for smokers who like a long, slim cigar and a smoking time of over an hour. It pairs well with cappuccino or café con leche, and with bourbon, aged rum or cognac. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.
