Description
The Aladino 85 Aniversario Reserva Toro is a medium toro measuring 6 × 52 from JRE Tobacco Co.'s Aladino 85 Aniversario Reserva line. Its wrapper, binder and filler are all Honduran Pinareño, which makes it a Honduran puro built on a single tobacco variety. The line was created to mark Julio Eiroa's 85th birthday.
Wrapper and Blend
Most Aladino cigars are built around the Eiroa family's Corojo. This one uses Pinareño instead, a Cuban-seed tobacco brought to Honduras in 1960 by Tino Agurdin. Pinareño gives smaller yields than Corojo and is more prone to disease, so very little of it is grown.
Julio Eiroa spent several years raising Pinareño crops on the JRE farm before releasing a cigar made from it. The 85 Aniversario Reserva uses that leaf for the Honduran Pinareño wrapper, the binder and the filler, with nothing else in the blend.
Format and Size
The Toro is 6 inches long with a 52 ring gauge, which works out to 52/64 of an inch, or about 0.81 inch across. It is the larger of the line's two sizes. The Aladino 85 Aniversario Reserva Robusto measures 5 × 50, so the Toro adds an inch of length and two ring-gauge points to the same blend.
Strength and Flavor Profile
This is a medium cigar. Its flavor notes are florals, chestnut, baker's spice, cedar, earth, cocoa, cashew and black pepper. Florals and chestnut come first, baker's spice and cedar follow, and earth, cocoa and a touch of black pepper round it out.
Line History and Production
The project began as a cigar for Julio Eiroa's 80th birthday. He kept working on the blend until he was satisfied with it, and the finished line debuted at the 2025 PCA trade show as the 85 Aniversario Reserva, in a Robusto and this Toro.
It is a regular production line, but JRE limits each retailer to four boxes of each size per month. Cigar Aficionado rated the Toro 93 points and ranked it No. 25 on its Top 25 Cigars of 2025.
Who It Suits
The Toro suits Aladino smokers who want to try the family's tobacco outside of Corojo, and anyone curious about a variety that rarely appears on its own. Choose it over the Robusto for the longer smoke.
For coffee, it pairs with an Americano, cappuccino, medium roast Colombian, cortado or café con leche. For spirits, try bourbon, aged rum, Highland Scotch, cognac or añejo tequila. Keep it in a humidor at steady humidity until you are ready to smoke it.
