Description
The Fuente Fuente Opus X Heaven and Earth Tauros the Bull Natural is a full-strength toro measuring 6 x 56 from Fuente's OpusX "Heaven and Earth" series. Its Dominican sun-grown Rosado wrapper comes from Chateau de la Fuente and covers a Dominican binder and filler, so like every OpusX it is a Dominican puro. Carlos "Carlito" Fuente makes it in small batches at Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia in Santiago.
Wrapper and Blend
OpusX is built around the Rosado wrapper the Fuente family grows on its own farm, Chateau de la Fuente, near Bonao. This natural version shows the reddish-brown leaf the line is known for, and Fuente also makes Tauros the Bull in a maduro. The binder and filler are Dominican; Fuente does not publish the individual leaves or their farms.
Format and Size
Tauros the Bull is a round, straight-sided parejo, 6 inches long with a 56 ring gauge (about 0.88 inches across), finished with a rounded head and an open foot. That makes it a thick toro, a broader smoke than the pointed 6.38 x 50 El Escorpion from the same series.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists Tauros the Bull Natural as full in strength. Its flavor notes are cedar, black pepper, leather, coffee bean, dark chocolate, roasted nuts and baking spice. Retailers and tasters describe a classic Dominican profile led by cedar and pepper, with leather and coffee bean through the middle and dark chocolate and nuttiness on the finish.
Line History and Production
The name comes from Taurus, the astrological sign Carlito Fuente shares with his father, Carlos Fuente Sr. Their birthdays fall seven days apart. Tauros the Bull is part of Fuente's aged OpusX program, released twice a year, in spring and fall, with a secondary band marking the year the cigars were rolled. The natural came once in a red travel humidor, in 2019, and now comes in a Macassar Ebony humidor. A portion of every sale supports the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation in Bonao.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
Tauros the Bull suits experienced smokers who like a full, wide-ring OpusX and collectors working through the Heaven and Earth series. Coffee pairings: Espresso, Café Cubano, Cortado, Dark roast, Americano. Spirit pairings: Bourbon, Rye whiskey, Cognac, Aged rum, Single malt Scotch. Keep the cigars at 65 to 70 percent humidity; for longer aging, move them from the travel humidor into a full-size humidor.
