Description
The Padron Black PB-99 Natural is a medium-to-full gordo measuring 6.75 x 60 from Padrón's Black line. It is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Nicaraguan wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, made at Padrón's own factory in Nicaragua and named for what would have been José O. Padrón's 99th birthday.
Wrapper and Blend
The Padron Black PB-99 Natural uses a Nicaraguan wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos, all grown and processed by Padrón. Jorge Padrón has described the Black blend as sitting between the Serie 1926 and the Family Reserve, closer to the Family Reserve in fullness.
The natural wrapper gives this version its lighter color and the drier, earthier side of the profile; the same blend is also offered with the maduro wrapper.
Format and Size
The Padron Black PB-99 Natural measures 6.75 inches long with a 60 ring gauge, about 0.94 inches in diameter. Padrón lists the size as a gordo extra, the thickest format released in the Black line so far. The earlier PB-97 shares the 6.75-inch length in a slimmer 54 ring gauge torpedo.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Padron Black PB-99 Natural as medium to full in strength. Its flavor notes are cedar, roasted nuts, leather, oatmeal, black pepper, toast, dried fruit. Reviewers describe the strength building through the cigar, finishing at the full end of the range.
Line History and Production
Padrón Black began in 2016 as the José O. Padrón 89 Birthday Blend, a corona gorda made for a single Florida retailer, and later became the name for Padrón's small, occasional releases: trade-show exclusives, Cigar Rights of America sampler cigars and birthday blends. Padrón first showed the PB-99 in April 2025 and began shipping it to retailers in August 2025, in both natural and maduro wrappers. Unlike the PB-97, the PB-99 is regular production, so it is intended to remain available rather than being a single run. Padrón lists the format as a 6.75 x 60 gordo extra.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Padron Black PB-99 Natural suits Padrón smokers who already know the 1964 Anniversary and 1926 lines and want a larger-format Black release. It pairs well with a medium roast Colombian or an Americano, and with bourbon, aged rum or Speyside Scotch. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.
