Description
The Fuente Y Padron Legends Collaboration LE is a medium-strength churchill set measuring 7 x 50, a joint release from the Fuente and Padrón families. Each humidor holds 40 cigars in two blends: 20 made by Arturo Fuente in the Dominican Republic and 20 made by Padrón in Nicaragua. Carlito Fuente blended his cigar to honor José O. Padrón, and Jorge Padrón blended his to honor Carlos Fuente Sr.
Wrapper and Blend
Neither company has disclosed the wrapper, binder or filler for either cigar. The two cigars are easy to tell apart: the Fuente cigar is round and dressed in a cedar sleeve with a ribbon at the foot, while the Padrón cigar is box-pressed with no sleeve. Each wears a primary band that joins the Fuente clock and the Padrón hammer.
Format and Size
Both cigars measure 7 inches long with a 50 ring gauge, about 0.78 inches in diameter, a classic churchill format. The Padrón 1964 Anniversary Diplomatico shares the same 7 x 50 size, and the Dámaso No. 17 is a slightly thicker 7 x 54.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Fuente Y Padron Legends Collaboration LE as medium in strength. Its flavor notes are cedar, peanut, black pepper, espresso, cream, earth, chocolate, toasted bread. halfwheel found the Fuente cigar the bolder of the two, with espresso, cedar, toasted bread and peanut at medium to medium-plus strength, while the Padrón cigar moved from pepper to cream, earth and chocolate at mild to medium strength.
Line History and Production
Carlito Fuente and Jorge Padrón announced the collaboration in October 2020, honoring their late fathers: Carlos Fuente Sr. died in August 2016 and José O. Padrón in December 2017. It was named at the 2022 PCA trade show, and after a delay caused by boxes damaged in transit, the first batch of about 750 humidors shipped in March 2024. The MSRP was set at $7,115 per humidor, and both families give the profits to their charities, the Padrón Family Foundation and the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Fuente Y Padron Legends Collaboration LE suits collectors and long-time Fuente and Padrón smokers who want to compare the two houses side by side. They pair well with espresso or a medium roast, and with bourbon, Cognac or aged rum. Store them at 65 to 70 percent humidity.
