Description
The Padron 1926 Series No. 47 Maduro is a medium-to-full box-pressed robusto measuring 5.5 x 50 from Padrón's 1926 Serie line. It is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Nicaraguan maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, all aged five years before blending. The size was first made in 2015 as an exclusive for the Tobacconists' Association of America.
Wrapper and Blend
The Padron 1926 Series No. 47 Maduro uses a sun-grown Nicaraguan maduro wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos, all grown and processed by Padrón. Padrón ages the tobacco for the 1926 Serie five years before blending and describes the result as smooth, complex, balanced and full-bodied in flavor.
The maduro wrapper gives this version its darker, oilier look and the sweeter, roasted side of the profile; the same size is also offered with the natural wrapper.
Format and Size
The Padron 1926 Series No. 47 Maduro measures 5.5 inches long with a 50 ring gauge, about 0.78 inches in diameter. It is box-pressed, like every 1926 Serie size except the No. 90. Padrón lists it at 50 x 5 1/2, a longer robusto. The No. 6 has the same 50 ring gauge in a shorter 4.75-inch length, and the No. 48 keeps the 5.5-inch length at a 60 ring gauge.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Padron 1926 Series No. 47 Maduro as medium to full in strength. Its flavor notes are leather, earth, cedar, peanut, dark chocolate, espresso, cinnamon, black pepper. Reviewers describe leather and earth up front, with cinnamon and black pepper coming forward later, and generally place the 1926 Serie a step stronger than Padrón's 1964 Anniversary line.
Line History and Production
Padrón premiered the 1926 Serie in 2002 to mark the 75th birthday of founder José O. Padrón, who was born in 1926; the company itself dates to 1964 in Miami. Padrón first made the No. 47 in 2015 as an exclusive for members of the Tobacconists' Association of America, marking the group's 47th annual meeting. At the 2016 IPCPR trade show Padrón made it regular production and offered it to all retailers.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Padron 1926 Series No. 47 Maduro suits smokers who like a robusto ring gauge with a little more length. It pairs well with an espresso, a café cubano or a dark roast, and with bourbon, port or an aged rum. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.
