Description
The Padron Damaso No. 8 is a mild to medium corona gorda measuring 5.5 x 46 from Padrón's Dámaso line. It pairs an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper with Nicaraguan binder and filler. Like every Dámaso, it is a round cigar rather than a box-pressed one, which sets the line apart from most of the Padrón range.
Wrapper and Blend
The Padron Damaso No. 8 uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos. The Dámaso was Padrón's first regular-production line with a Connecticut wrapper, a departure from the Nicaraguan wrappers on the rest of the range. It is made in this one wrapper only; there is no maduro version.
Format and Size
The Padron Damaso No. 8 measures 5.5 inches long with a 46 ring gauge, about 0.72 inches in diameter. Padrón lists it as 46 x 5 1/2 in boxes of 20. It is the slimmest size in the line. The No. 12 is a shorter, thicker 5 x 50 robusto, and the No. 15 is a longer 6 x 52 toro.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Padron Damaso No. 8 as mild to medium in strength. Its flavor notes are cream, cedar, citrus, honey, toasted nuts, white pepper. Reviewers of the line describe a creamy, cedar-led smoke with light citrus sweetness and a pepper note that comes and goes. The No. 8's slimmer ring keeps the wrapper's cream and citrus close to the front.
Line History and Production
Padrón introduced the Dámaso at the 2015 IPCPR trade show and shipped the No. 8, 12, 15 and 17 in July 2015. The line is named for Dámaso Padrón, José O. Padrón's grandfather and the first Padrón to reach Cuba from the Canary Islands. The original numbers were reported at launch to stand for the ages of four of his grandchildren. The No. 34 torpedo followed in April 2016 and the No. 32 robusto shortly after. All are rolled at Tabacos Cubanica S.A. in Nicaragua.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Padron Damaso No. 8 suits smokers who want a milder Padrón, including those who usually reach for Connecticut-wrapped cigars and anyone looking for a morning or daytime smoke. It pairs well with a cappuccino or breakfast blend, and with Irish whiskey, Cognac or light rum. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.
