Description
The Padron 7000 Natural is a medium-to-full box-pressed gordo measuring 6.25 x 60 from Padrón's Thousand Series, which Padrón calls the Padrón Series. It is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Nicaraguan natural wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, all sun-grown, aged at least two and a half years, and rolled at Padrón's own factory in Estelí.
Wrapper and Blend
The Padron 7000 Natural uses a Nicaraguan natural wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos, all grown by the Padrón family in Nicaragua. The numbers denote size, not a different blend.
The natural wrapper is the lighter of the two leaves on this line and gives a drier, wood-forward character; the same 6.25 x 60 size is also made with a maduro wrapper.
Format and Size
The Padron 7000 Natural measures 6.25 inches long with a 60 ring gauge, about 0.94 inches in diameter. The 7000 is the thickest of the numbered sizes. The 4000 is a quarter inch longer at 6.5 inches but slimmer at 54 ring, and the 5000 offers a shorter 5.5 x 56 format.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Padron 7000 Natural as medium to full in strength. Its flavor notes are cedar, hardwood, leather, black pepper, earth, orange peel. Cigar Aficionado's tasting notes on the 7000 describe rich cedar and hard woods under a leathery, peppery profile, and a later review picks up a subtle undercurrent of orange peel.
Line History and Production
Padrón dates the Padrón Series to 1964, the year José Orlando Padrón founded the company in Miami after leaving Cuba. Today it runs to fifteen medium- to full-bodied sizes, from the Corticos to the Magnum, each in natural and maduro; the numbered 2000 to 7000 sizes give it the Thousand Series name. Its tobacco is aged at least two and a half years, against at least four for the 1964 Anniversary Series. The 7000 is regular production at Tabacos Cubanica S.A. in Estelí.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Padron 7000 Natural suits smokers who want an everyday Padrón before moving up to the 1964 Anniversary or 1926 lines. It is the largest numbered size, for smokers who prefer a 60 ring gauge and a long smoke. It pairs well with medium roast or espresso, and with bourbon, añejo rum or rye whiskey. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.
