Description
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Corona Maduro is a medium-to-full box-pressed corona measuring 6 x 42 from Padrón's 1964 Anniversary line. It is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Nicaraguan maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, made from tobacco aged four years. It is one of the two slimmest sizes in the line.
Wrapper and Blend
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Corona Maduro uses a Nicaraguan maduro wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos from the Estelí, Condega and Jalapa regions. Padrón ages all tobacco used in the 1964 Anniversary Series for four years before rolling.
The maduro wrapper gives this version its darker, oilier look and a sweeter, roasted side of the profile; the same blend is also offered with the sun-grown natural wrapper.
Format and Size
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Corona Maduro measures 6 inches long with a 42 ring gauge, about 0.66 inches in diameter, and is box-pressed into a squared shape. It shares its 42 ring gauge with the Superior, which is half an inch longer at 6.5 x 42, and is one of the slimmest cigars in the line.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Corona Maduro as medium to full in strength. Its flavor notes are cocoa, espresso, earth, leather, cedar, black pepper. The slim ring gauge puts the maduro wrapper forward, so cocoa and espresso lead with leather and pepper underneath.
Line History and Production
Padrón introduced the 1964 Anniversary Series in 1994 to mark the company's 30th anniversary, naming it for the year José O. Padrón began making cigars in Miami. It launched as a box-pressed series when most cigars were round. Each cigar carries an individually numbered band that guards against counterfeits. The Corona and Superior are the two 42-ring sizes in the series, its slimmest formats.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Corona Maduro suits smokers who want an aged, all-Nicaraguan blend. It works for smokers who like a slim cigar where the wrapper carries more of the flavor. It pairs well with espresso or Cuban coffee, and with bourbon, aged rum or port. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.
