Description
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Hermoso Natural is a medium-to-full box-pressed short robusto measuring 4 x 56 from Padrón's 1964 Anniversary line. It is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Nicaraguan sun-grown natural wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, made from tobacco aged four years. It is the shortest size in the line, added in 2016.
Wrapper and Blend
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Hermoso Natural uses a Nicaraguan sun-grown natural wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos from the Estelí, Condega and Jalapa regions. Padrón ages all tobacco used in the 1964 Anniversary Series for four years before rolling.
The sun-grown natural wrapper is lighter in color than the maduro and leans toward cocoa, cedar and nuttier notes; the same blend is also offered with a maduro wrapper.
Format and Size
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Hermoso Natural measures 4 inches long with a 56 ring gauge, about 0.88 inches in diameter, and is box-pressed into a squared shape. It is the shortest cigar in the 1964 Anniversary Series, with the same 56 ring gauge as the TAA Toro but a full inch shorter. The Principe is the other compact choice, half an inch longer and much slimmer at 46.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Hermoso Natural as medium to full in strength. Its flavor notes are cocoa, black pepper, earth, cedar, roasted nuts, coffee, leather. Reviewers describe a peppery start that settles into cocoa and earth before building again in the final third.
Line History and Production
Padrón introduced the 1964 Anniversary Series in 1994 to mark the company's 30th anniversary, naming it for the year José O. Padrón began making cigars in Miami. It launched as a box-pressed series when most cigars were round. Each cigar carries an individually numbered band that guards against counterfeits. The Hermoso joined the line in April 2016 after a market test in eastern U.S. shops earlier that year, becoming the series' twelfth regular production size and its shortest.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Hermoso Natural suits smokers who want an aged, all-Nicaraguan blend. It works for smokers who want the 1964 blend in a short, thick format that fits a 45-minute to one-hour break. It pairs well with cappuccino or café con leche, and with bourbon, aged rum or cognac. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.
