Description
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series No. 4 Maduro is a medium-to-full box-pressed gordo measuring 6.5 x 60 from Padrón's 1964 Anniversary Series. It is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Nicaraguan maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, all aged four years and made at Padrón's own factory in Nicaragua. It carries the widest ring gauge in the 1964 Anniversary Series and was added to the line in 2012.
Wrapper and Blend
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series No. 4 Maduro uses a sun-grown Nicaraguan maduro wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos, all grown and processed by Padrón and aged four years before rolling.
The maduro wrapper gives the No. 4 a darker, oilier look and a sweeter, roasted profile; Cigar Aficionado rated it 92 points in 2025. The same blend is also offered with the natural wrapper.
Format and Size
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series No. 4 Maduro measures 6.5 inches long with a 60 ring gauge, about 0.94 inches in diameter, the thickest size Padrón makes in the 1964 Anniversary Series. The Imperial offers a slimmer 6 x 54 toro, and the Monarca shares the 6.5-inch length at a 46 ring.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Padron 1964 Anniversary Series No. 4 Maduro as medium to full in strength. Its flavor notes are toast, salted caramel, hickory smoke, grilled meat, black peppercorn, cocoa. Cigar Aficionado described toasty first puffs with a salted caramel sweetness, turning more intense with hickory, meaty notes and a peppercorn finish.
Line History and Production
Padrón introduced the 1964 Anniversary Series in 1994 to mark 30 years since José O. Padrón founded the company in Miami. He and his son Jorge built it from older tobaccos and the box press José remembered from Cuba, and each cigar carries an individually numbered band. Padrón announced a 60-ring size for the series in January 2012, first called the Patriarch and renamed the No. 4. Jorge Padrón told Cigar Aficionado it would have its own blend rather than copy an earlier 6 x 60 made for a single retailer.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series No. 4 Maduro suits smokers who like big ring gauges and long smokes, and anyone who wants the 1964 blend in its coolest-burning, slowest format. It pairs well with espresso or dark roast, and with bourbon, rye whiskey or aged rum. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.
