Description
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Piramides Maduro is a medium-to-full box-pressed pyramid measuring 6.88 x 52 from Padrón's 1964 Anniversary Series. It is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Nicaraguan maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, all aged four years and made at Padrón's own factory in Nicaragua. It tapers from a 52 ring at the foot to a 42 ring at the head.
Wrapper and Blend
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Piramides Maduro uses a sun-grown Nicaraguan maduro wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos, all grown and processed by Padrón and aged four years before rolling.
The maduro wrapper adds a darker, sweeter cocoa layer over the leather and nougat that Cigar Aficionado described in this size; the same blend is also offered with the natural wrapper.
Format and Size
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Piramides Maduro measures 6.88 inches long and tapers from a 52 ring gauge at the foot, about 0.81 inches across, to 42 at the head. Padrón lists it as 52 x 42 x 6 7/8. The Torpedo uses the same 52 ring at 6 inches with a shorter taper.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Piramides Maduro as medium to full in strength. Its flavor notes are leather, nougat, dark cocoa, espresso, earth, black pepper. Cigar Aficionado described the shape as tapered at the head and flaring at the foot, with an even draw.
Line History and Production
Padrón introduced the 1964 Anniversary Series in 1994 to mark 30 years since José O. Padrón founded the company in Miami. He and his son Jorge built it from older tobaccos and the box press José remembered from Cuba, and each cigar carries an individually numbered band. The Piramide, as Padrón spells it on its site, has been rated by Cigar Insider and Cigar Aficionado since 2001, with scores up to 93 points.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Piramides Maduro suits smokers who like a long tapered cigar, where the narrow head concentrates the smoke and the flavor changes as the ring widens. It pairs well with espresso or dark roast, and with bourbon, rye whiskey or aged rum. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.
