Description
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Principe Natural is a medium-to-full box-pressed short robusto measuring 4.5 x 46 from Padrón's 1964 Anniversary line. It is a Nicaraguan puro, with a Nicaraguan sun-grown natural wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, made from tobacco aged four years. It is the slimmest of the line's two short sizes.
Wrapper and Blend
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Principe Natural uses a Nicaraguan sun-grown natural wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos from the Estelí, Condega and Jalapa regions. Padrón ages all tobacco used in the 1964 Anniversary Series for four years before rolling.
The sun-grown natural wrapper is lighter in color than the maduro and leans toward cocoa, cedar and nuttier notes; the same blend is also offered with a maduro wrapper.
Format and Size
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Principe Natural measures 4.5 inches long with a 46 ring gauge, about 0.72 inches in diameter, and is box-pressed into a squared shape. It sits between the Hermoso, a thicker 4 x 56, and the Exclusivo, a 5.5 x 50, and is one of the quickest smokes in the series.
Strength and Flavor Profile
TRP lists the Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Principe Natural as medium to full in strength. Its flavor notes are milk chocolate, cocoa, cedar, roasted nuts, cream, vanilla, white pepper. Reviewers describe a creamy, cappuccino-like smoke with milk chocolate, cedar and a nutty, lightly peppered middle.
Line History and Production
Padrón introduced the 1964 Anniversary Series in 1994 to mark the company's 30th anniversary, naming it for the year José O. Padrón began making cigars in Miami. It launched as a box-pressed series when most cigars were round. Each cigar carries an individually numbered band that guards against counterfeits. Cigar Aficionado rated the natural Principe 94 points and ranked it No. 8 in its Top 25 of 2022.
Who It Suits and How to Enjoy It
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Principe Natural suits smokers who want an aged, all-Nicaraguan blend. It works for smokers who want the full 1964 character in a short session of around 40 minutes. It pairs well with cappuccino or café con leche, and with bourbon, aged rum or cognac. Store it at 65 to 70 percent humidity and give it a few weeks of rest after shipping.
